Today we make a sack lunch and then leave to the trail head of the Lost Mine trail. Rumor has it that workers at the mine were brought to work blind folded so that they could not disclose the location of the mine. No mine has ever been found. Lost Mine Trail is considered one of the best Big Bend hikes, with moderate elevation gains, a wide range of vegetation and scenic viewpoints. The Lost Mine Trail is 4.8 miles roundtrip. Those not up for that long of a hike, can hike about a mile on the Lost Mine Trail to arrive at what many consider the most incredible view in Big Bend. After the hike, we retuned to the lodge briefly and then embarked to the farewell dinner at the Terlingua Community Center. We then returned to the lodge for our last night before leaving the park.
