Lee commissioned them into his regiments. Union soldiers took most of his horses, leaving John, Sr., a voucher. John married Elizabeth Alexander Rucker, daughter of Samuel C Rucker and Lucinda W. Alexander, on 14 Jul 1835 in Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co., Tennessee. (Elizabeth Alexander Rucker was born on 10 Oct 1821 in , Rutherford, Tennessee, USA and died in Oct 1892.)
