1. Biography. Benjamin was mentioned as a member of the County Committee under the Continental Association in Bedford Co., Virginia, Aug. 1775. He was an attorney at law, Justice of Peace, Trustee of Warminster Academy, Vestryman of Rucker or St. Mathews Parrish, and a member of the Committee of Safety of Amhurst Co., Virginia in 1769. He furnished supplies for General Greene and Washington's Dragoons during the Revolution. He was called Captain Benjamin Rucker in 1782, probably for taking the tax list of the county in 1782 - the FIRST tax list taken. For furnishing Rev. War supplies his claims are in the Archives, in Richmond, Va. 1781 Feb. 24. The first tax list in 1782 mentions "Capt. Benj. Rucker" paying taxes on 1,100 acres of land. The name Benj. Rucker appears on "List of Rev. soldiers of Amherst Co., Virginia. His will made June 25, 1800 probated Feb.22, 1810. Will Book A, p.123 - Amhurst Co. Virginia mentions his son Thomas.
