1. Hobbies: Amateur Radio, Apr 1954, Livingston, Essex, New Jersey, USA. Bob became a license Amateur Radio Operator in 1954. He progressed through various licenses and activities and currently holds the highest license, Amateur Extra Class. He is primarily interested in emergency and public service applications. Bob is active in the Adrian Amateur Radio Club and has served as President of the organization. His original call letters were K2IBM, though he also was licensed as WD8LCO and KB8EU. He has now obtained his original call once again of K2IBM. This call was issued by the FCC in 1954 and was prophetic, given Bob's avid interest in computers. 2. Bob was assigned by the Peace Corps to teach English as a foreign language in the Universidad de Oriente, in Cumaná, Venezuala. Bob designed and operated a Language Laboratory at the university. Also, as an electronic technician, he repaired and made operational the radio, radar, and sonar instruments aboard the university's research vessel, a 100 foot WWII mine sweeper donated to the university by the U.S. Navy. Bob also had the opportunity to visit most other Venezuelan universities where the Peace Corps had language laboratories, to repair and keep the equipment operational. 4. Bob received a training grant from the Veterans Administration to work part time for four years. This was an excellent source of experience as well as providing a stipend to pay for graduate studies. Part of the training was also done at the VA hospital in Omaha, NE. 5. Clinical Training: Clinical Internship, 1966 To 1967, Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska, USA. Bob completed an internship in Clinical Psychology at the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute which was a branch of the University of Nebraska Medical School. This internship was accredited by the American Psychological Association. 6. Teaching Occupation: Assistant Professor of Psychology Nebraska Wesleyan University, 1969 To 1973, Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, USA. Bob was Assistant Professor of Psychology and developer and first director of the Biopsychology Program. Bob taught a wide range of undergraduate psychology courses and received an National Science Foundation grant to pursue research in the electrical stimulation of the rat brain. 7. Bob served on the committee that established the first federally funded community mental health center in Lincoln, Nebraska. 12. Bob was released from teaching one course in order to provide psychological services to students who were having problems beyond that which the counselors at the Student Development Office felt qualified to handle. 13. Bob moved to Adrian College to assume the Chair of the Department of Psychology. In three years he revamped the curriculum to assure that all of the essential undergraduate courses were taught and that there would be no deficiencies for students who planned to go on to graduate school in psychology. Bob was a popular professor and was invited to give the commencement speech for the graduating class of 1976. He left Adrian College to assume the position of Clinical and Executive Director of Community Mental Health Services of Lenawee County. After seven years of college teaching, it was necessary to decide on whether to continue pursuing an academic career or to become a full time clinical psychologist. Bob decided to pursue the latter course. 14. License: Certified Consulting psychologist, State of Michigan, 1974, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob became certified by the State of Michigan to practice clinical psychology in 1974. This certification automatically changed to licensure when Michigan passed the licensure legislation. 15. Founded in 1960, the Society for Psychophysiological Research is an international scientific society with worldwide membership. The purpose of the Society is to foster research on the interrelationships between the physiological and psychological aspects of behavior. To promote this purpose, the Society publishes scientific literature, including the journal Psychophysiology, and holds annual meetings for presentation and discussion of original theory and research, instrumentation and methodology, and new directions and standards in the field. 17. While teaching at Adrian College, Bob worked part time with his wife, Gretchen in private practice which Gretchen started in 1974. In 1981 Bob joined the practice full time where he continues to work as a clinical psychologist. 18. Bob did group therapy at the county jail and saw probationers in individual therapy on a part time basis while teaching at Adrian College. 19. Occupation: Clinical and Executive Director, 1976 To 1981, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob was clinical and executive director of Community Mental Health Services of Lenawee County. He designed the clinical program and had a staff of about 50 people working at the center. In this capacity Bob was responsible for all clinical activity including a large number of patients whom had been discharged from the State Hospital into the community. Bob was also ultimately responsible for all of the business end of running a large clinic. This period was the "golden age" of community mental health in Michigan. Due to political changes and budgetary problems Michigan later ranked 50 out of 50 states as having the poorest mental health system in the country. Bob left community mental health at the very beginning of the deterioration, and joined Warwick Associates for the rest of his career. 21. Civic Service: Michigan Mid-South Health Systems Agency, 1977 To 1981, Leslie, Ingham, Michigan, USA. Bob served on this health planning agency board, serving as Chair in 1981. The agency sought to reduce public medical cost by coordinating resources among regional hospitals. 22. Civic Service: Civitan International, 1977 To 1980, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Served as Treasurer of this civic service organization. 23. Civic Service: Bixby Hospital Alcohol Information and Referral Center, 1978 To 1980, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob served as Chairman of the Advisory Board. 24. Hobbies: Personal Computers, 1978 To 2013, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob has enjoyed working with computers after being exposed to main frame computing at the University of Nebraska in 1964. When personal computers were invented, Bob build one of the early ones, which was available only as a kit. Bob was an active member of the Lenawee PC Users Group, a local computer club, running the club for many years before finally reorganizing the club in 2004 to distribute some of the responsibilities among members. Bob is still very active having recently given a program on computer security that was attended by 59 people from the community. 25. Hobbies: SCUBA Diving, 1980, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob and Gretchen spent five years actively assisting in the teaching of SCUBA. We both were P.A.D.I. Dive Masters, which qualified us to accompany and assist beginning divers in their pool and open water training. Bob had to give up teaching SCUBA after an ear injury which affected his hearing, though pleasure diving is still possible and enjoyed. 26. Bob served as a consultant to the Bixby Hospital Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Treatment Programs, both inpatient and outpatient. This was a part time consulting position which primarily advised the staff on those patients who also were exhibiting symptoms of mental illness. 27. Bob joined Gretchen in her private practice after leaving Community Mental Health Services of Lenawee County. Bob treated primarily adults both individually and in couples treatment. He also would see an occasional family and older children. Bob enjoyed doing marriage work because of his commitment to the notion that a strong marriage is a vital part of individual mental health. He also enjoyed working with more serious pathology, keeping with his hospital and public community mental health center experiences. Bob felt that is was a real privilege to have the opportunity to make life changing differences in the people who came to him for treatment. He felt that the practice of clinical psychology to him was the definition of "a life that was worth living." 28. Civic Service: American Red Cross, 1982 To 1987, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob served on the board of the local chapter of the American Red Cross. He was elected Board Chairman, serving two terms in 1986 and 1987. 29. Civic Service: Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, 1984 To 1989, Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, USA. Bob served on the board for five years and was elected President in 1988. 30.
