1. Virginia House of Burgesses. He was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses for many years. He was a member of the Committee of Safety. He was a member of the Senate of Virginia. His estate consisted of three large tracts of land in Essex and adjoining counties and 110 slaves, which were dividedamong his children; his land to his three sons.
Extract from Bible of Mrs. Cordelia Upshur Terrell: " Diedat his seat in Essex County, Virginia at White Hall, July 21, 1801, in the 86th year of age. He was a man of fine parts: his character for probity was preserved unbelmished through his long honored life. He sat for many years in the House of Burgesses, Va. and was a member of the Committee of Safety fo rhis county during the Revolution.
