Ann Ridgeway

  Noted events in her life were:

1. Marriage Contract. "George Gilmer was born near Edinburgh, in Scotland. After acquiring the usual fund of medical Knowledge for the commemcement of practice, he went to London, as was the fashion then of young Scotch Physicians who were eager fpr fame and fortune, where he connected himmself in professional business with Dr. Ridgeway. Not long afterwards, he was employed by the London Land Company to go to Virginia to manage the affairs of the firm. He and the daughter (only child) of Dr. Ridgeway had been previously interchanging tender looks and soft words. Their imagination so magnified the extent of the ocean which would separate them, and the unknown dangers of the distant land, that they could not part without being united for life. They were married privately in the presence of Mrs. Ridgway. When Dr. Gilmer returned to London he found his wife dead. He went back to Virginia ..."
