Carol Ann Baron, 74, of Newark, N.J., ended her long day's journey through darkness into light and life, at home, on June 5, 2013. A celebration of her life/Witness to the Resurrection will be at the United Presbyterian Church of Cedar Grove, Pompton Ave. (Route 23) at Commerce Road, on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, Kearny, N.J. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.thiele-reid.com. Born on Dec. 18, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa, Carol grew up on a farm in New London, Iowa, and was an accomplished organist as a teenager. Awarded a full scholarship to become the college organist at Parsons College, she left for New York City upon graduation, where she earned graduate degrees from the Fashion Institute of Technology and Columbia University. Moving to Newark, N.J., in 1982, Carol eventually began her own business, Carol Baron's Custom Made, designing and creating custom gowns for countless brides. At one time, she also served as dean of students at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. Carol is survived by her husband, Rev. Edward A. Clydesdale, whom she married on Nov. 16, 1990, and by her two brothers John, of Davenport, Iowa, and William, of New London, Iowa. In addition, Carol is survived by her stepchildren, Susan Clydesdale Harris of Harrison, N.J., and Edward Scot Clydesdale and his wife, Sheri, of Circleville, Ohio, and grandchildren, Heather, Jeffrey, and Jessica. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor to the United Presbyterian Church of Cedar Grove or People for Animals, 401 Hillside Ave., Hillside, N.J. 07205, would be appreciated.
